2019 prototype

Ok team titleist here is my opinion on the 2019 prototypes. Off the tee: they are great , lowered spin rate (trackman) got more distance From the fairway: they had great flight and distance very easy to shape Around the green and with in 100 yards: didn’t like the feel around the greens . Had really no spin around the greens at all.

Overall great ball but would not make it my gamer . I tested these next to my gamer prov1 and also prov1x and avx. I have better reaction around the greens with the prov1 and prov1x . But the flight the prototypes off the tee outstanding.

Would love everyone’s opinions that have tested them .

I just tested the 2019 Proto golf ball that Titleist sent me in the mail. Played on my home course so I was accustomed to distances I typically hit. It was very long off the driver. Off the irons, the ball flight similar to ProVI. Soft around the greens. Don't know much about what it will be branded under but when I find out, I will switch immediately. The Proto was definitely better for my game. Incidentally, my handicap is 3, my irons are Titleist T-MB, 3 Wood and Hybrid are Titleist. Only club in the back not Titleist is my driver.

Hey Team Titleist!

It's truly the most wonderful time of year: #2019Proto season. Yesterday, I took the 2019 Prototypes (black) out for the first time and figured I would start a discussion forum to collect all of our thoughts throughout this process. For reference, I currently play AVX golf balls and I played a course that I frequent on the weekends (shoutout Triggs!).

Off the tee: It was pretty hot with a light feeling off the tee. My flight was a bit higher than I'm used to, but my distance was similar. I also felt a bit of forgiveness with my mishits - nothing was out of play.

Long irons/fairway metals: This is where my flight was definitely higher into the greens, making it easier for the ball to avoid rollout.

Short game: I ended up in a few greenside bunkers yesterday and my shots out were getting check that I absolutely loved. I tend to run off the green with my bunker game, so it was fun to see that check and stop.

Putting: Soft feel

I received my Prototype balls a couple of weeks ago, thank you, and they are great I am finding that off the tee I have be developing a beautiful draw and distance is good, and feels and sounds good off the Driver, my iron game has improved as I feel an extra confidence when striking the new ball, but where I am finding the wow factor is my short game, chipping pitching bunker shots amazing and my putting is improving probably because I am getting closer to the hole with less run. Over 2 rounds of stroke I reduced my score by 12 strokes and in 2 weeks playing the new balls I have taken 4 strokes off my handicap. I have played 5 rounds and the balls still look and feel good, and I am now exclusively playing the Pro V1 having just bought a box. I am looking forward to the release of the yellow ProV1 any news on their release, would love to trial those, once again thanks for the chance to try the new ball looking forward to buying a box.

Loved having you play with me in the Sea Pines Country Club Member-Guest. My input on the AVX ball is that it’s longer off the driver irons and putts great. I’m sold on the AVX

Tried the new AVX optic yellow yesterday. I was surprised by the additional distance. It was chilly here in southern California, 50 degrees when we teed off at 6:30am. The ball was on average about 10 yards further than the NXT Tour S and TP5 that I normally switch back and forth with. The feel off the driver was softer than the Pro V and NXT Tour S, but not as soft as the TP5. The feel off the irons was so soft and smooth, it was as soft as the TP5. The spin off the irons was perfect, not too much but enough to just stop the ball on the green when it hit. Off the driver the roll out was impressive compared to the NXT Tour S and TP5.

While I was impressed by the ball, the price seems a little high. It was priced $2 higher than the Pro V's. I hope the price comes down to a little higher than NXT Tour S. I would pay $39/$40 for them but I can't justify the $48 per dozen.

I really liked the ball and if price is no object it felt really good and performed, but like I mentioned I can't justify $4 per ball.

Hard to distinguish conformation bias, but I'm certain I was sticking more greens on approaches and pitches with the black number (V) over the red number (X) and the 2017 V. It also rolled smoothly off the face. I'm hoping the optic V will be included if/when the loyalty offer comes again in March.

Interesting, the red 1 is the new X. It will feel firmer than the 2017/2019 V's. The V you found may have been earlier than the 2017 model and it would feel harder than the current V as well. The dimple design will impact side spin more than the core softness. The urethane/tour model from any vendor regardless of compression will spin more than others. You may want to try the Tour Soft and Velocity to see if you find more fairways. Although nothing works better than setup lessons and making sure the driver is fit to minimize dispersion.

It's been cold here in VT, so limited testing of the #2019Proto so far!

The ball rolled well and felt good at impact, in my case making a distinctive “click” when it was struck well.
Stay tuned for more as the temps hopefully allow for more testing!

Winter Golf Balls

Hey guys just wanted to ask you what winter ball you play and what you would recommend. I am going with the dt trusoft for the fall/winter. I use this ball in yellow to help me see better with the leaves falling and everything. I also use this ball because it is very soft and flies well in the cold. Instead of the pro v1's feeling like hitting rocks in the cold. (not to say there still the best).

Still too wet for me to play golf....but I did go and putt with a Pro V1 alongside a Proto and both felt almost the same. The Proto seemed a littler softer.
Hit about 30 balls each from about 18 ft. Oddly enough I made more putts with the Proto type on the practice green than the Pro V1.
I think the Proto's are an excellent ball...they roll well....feel great coming off the face of the putter.
I'll get back to you when it dries up and I am able to take them to the course. Again Thanks to the Titleist Marketing Department.

I took out the Proto 2019 this weekend.
The biggest observation was how well they stuck on the green for my approach shots. Great spin and stopped on a dime. Putting was also very soft feeling. I had great distance control when on the green.
As far as distance, I didn't notice any extended distance. I was about as long as normal; however, mis-hits seemed to be better controlled.
